You can get to the shore of the pond by car. Right by the parking lot there is a BBQ hut (kota) and a 100 metres away there is a lean-to shelter with a campfire site.
The pond is nearly round with a diameter of a few hundred metres. The north end of Kaunislampi has a little bay that is an excellent spot for catching fish. There is trail circling the pond and here and there you will find wooden casting platforms for easy casting.
Rainbow trout is periodically planted in the pond and you can catch these fish either by casting, fly fishing or with a fishing pole and line. In the winter ice fishing is also allowed. Using flotation devices or boats is prohibited. For fly fishers there are a few spots along the shoreline for comfortable casting. There is a small point extending onto the water on the eastern shore where you can wade into the water for easier casts.
Anglers intending to fish in Kaunislampi should choose small lures that can be cast long distances. Small spinners, spoons and casting flies are tasty treats for rainbow trout. During the cold water season you will run into fish throughout the sunlight hours. In warmer weather the fishing should focus on the hours of the morning and evening.
