Rivers and rapids

The largest river areas in Finland are extensive and fast-flowing fishing grounds. Rivers Tornionjoki, Tenojoki and Simojoki, still in their natural state, are among the most prolific salmon rivers in Europe. Finland has plenty of rapids areas suitable for fishing. Finland has it all for anglers keen to fishing in flowing waters from large majestic salmon rivers to small brooks and rapids.

Finnish Lakeland

Finland is the country with the most waters in the whole world. There are around 187 888 lakes in Finland and 10 % of Finland's surface is covered by lakes. In central and eastern parts of the country lies the Finnish Lake District, also known as the Finnish Lakeland. It is an extensive and beautiful area of interconnected lakes in Europe, comprising tens of thousands of lakes.

Coast and Archipelago

The unique archipelagos are fascinating and peaceful fishing environments with good odds of catching fish! Water on the Baltic Sea coast is brackish and the most important game species are the freshwater species pike and perch. The 1,100 km coastline also offers diverse opportunities for fishing zander, salmon, sea trout and many other species all year round.

Finland’s extensive waters are pristine and full of beautiful scenery that will take your breath away. Unlike crowded fishing sites around the world, Finland offers space and silence. Here you can fish in your own peace in various fishing sites.

The most common game species include the white-fleshed predators pike, perch and zander. Pike and perch can be found in almost all waters. Over a metre-long pike is a no big deal anywhere in Finland. The best zander stocks can be found in the lake district of Southern and Central Finland and on the southern sea coast.

Northern Finland offers great sites for anglers and fly fishers in pursuit of grayling, trout and salmon. In the best sites in Northwest Lapland, known as the ‘Arm of Finland’, grayling can grow to weights of over two kilos. Dream destinations for anglers in pursuit of big salmon include River Tenojoki, the most prolific salmon river in Europe, River Tornionjoki and River Simojoki.
