Whitefish is a possible catch in Hossa.
The Hossa hiking area is located right in the vicinity Finland’s eastern border, in the wilderness of Suomussalmi. The area’s landscape consists of ridges draped in pine woods and depressions where lakes, rivers, streams and countless crystal clear ponds glisten in the sun.
The hiking area has a camping site, cottage accommodations and a Nature Centre that offers cafe and restaurant services. The Nature Centre is the natural starting point of a fishing trip: in addition to the required fishing licences, the Centre also offers information and guidance about the fishing and hiking opportunities in the area — not forgetting local fishing tips, of course! Moving around is made easier by marked routes and trails and campfire sites and lean-to shelters.

The fishing waters of Hossa have naturally strong perch and whitefish stocks. Fry plantings of salmonids are also conducted in the area’s lakes and ponds. Clean waters and good nutrition conditions allow these planted fish to thrive and grow large. The area’s ponds and lakes are ideal for fishing from the shore. Some of the waters are also suitable for fishing from rowboats, which may be rented from the Nature Centre.
The Hossanjoki river area is 5 kilometres long and it contains approximately ten different rapids with naturally strong grayling stocks. Catch-size trout is also planted into the river. In addition to the river, the Hossa area has plenty of smaller running waters that make for interesting fishing destinations.

A camping site serves as the centre of the area and offers anglers a wide variety of services.
